He was assassinated in Paltan, Dhaka on 12 December 2025 and died on 18 December at Singapore General Hospital.

Early Life & Family (1993)

Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, also known as Osman Goni, was born on 30 June 1993 in Nalchity Upazila of Jhalokathi District, Bangladesh. He was born into a religious family to Maulana Abdul Hadi, a madrasa teacher and local imam, and Taslima Hadi. The youngest of six siblings, he grew up in an environment shaped by faith, discipline, and community service.

Education & Academic Career (2010–2018)

Hadi completed his higher secondary education at Jhalokathi N S Kamil Madrasa, passing the Alim examination. He later enrolled in the Department of Political Science at the University of Dhaka during the 2010–2011 academic session. Alongside his studies and activism, he worked as a lecturer in the Department of Business Studies at the University of Scholars in Dhaka, earning recognition as a thoughtful and principled teacher.

Entry into Activism & Inqilab Moncho (2024)

Following the July Revolution of 2024, Hadi emerged as a prominent voice in youth-led political movements. He co-founded and became the spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho, a platform advocating political accountability, justice for martyrs, and systemic reform. His role positioned him at the center of post-revolution political discourse.

Role in the July Revolution

During the July Revolution, Hadi resided in Rampura, Dhaka, where he worked as a local coordinator. His speeches gained widespread attention on social media, particularly for framing the movement around the concept of “INSAF”—justice, accountability, and dignity. This moral framing resonated strongly with young Bangladeshis and helped define the ideological language of the movement.

Political Ambitions & Public Campaigning (2025)

In preparation for the 2026 Bangladeshi general election, Hadi announced his intention to contest the Dhaka-8 constituency as an independent candidate. He conducted grassroots outreach through consultation meetings across neighborhoods and organized a van rally in central Dhaka. His campaign emphasized anti-corruption, transparency, and accountability of incumbent leaders.

Stance on Anti-Indian Hegemony

As spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho, Hadi became widely known for his opposition to what he described as Indian hegemony in Bangladesh. He argued that democratic stagnation was sustained through external political influence, particularly from India, and called for a generational break from these power structures. His advocacy included demands for banning the Awami League and revising bilateral treaties to establish what he termed “justice-based sovereignty.

International Attention & Controversy

Hadi gained international attention after reportedly releasing a map depicting a “Greater Bangladesh,” which included parts of India’s Northeast and West Bengal. While the move drew strong criticism from Indian officials, it further solidified his reputation among supporters as a radical and uncompromising critic of regional geopolitics.

Assassination (December 2025)

On 12 December 2025, at approximately 2:25 PM (BST), Hadi was shot in the Paltan area of Dhaka after leaving a mosque. The attack was carried out by assailants on a motorcycle, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He had previously reported receiving death threats related to his activism.

Hadi was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital, Dhaka. On 15 December 2025, he was airlifted to Singapore and admitted to Singapore General Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on 18 December 2025, at the age of 32.
